Nursery – Reception
Cheryl was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. She spent three years obtaining a Bachelor degree in Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia before realising that her true passion was working with young children and that she wanted to be a teacher.
She joined St. Christopher’s in 2003 and taught Reception for the first 8 years of her career. She then moved up to teach Year 1 and was a teacher in that year group for 7 years. She moved back to work in the Early Years as a Nursery teacher a few years ago and loves the adventures in this year group.
Cheryl is married to Aaron and they have a boy named Xander and a little girl named Kaylee who are both students at SCIPS.
Joey is originally from Liverpool, England. She trained at Liverpool Hope University and has an honours degree in Primary Education and Disability Studies. Whilst at University, she won a scholarship to spend a semester studying and teaching in Durban, South Africa. It was here that she met her husband, Rudi and they have since welcomed two children, Nell and Remy. After teaching in the UK, Joey spent three years teaching in a British International school in Kuwait before eventually moving to work in an international school in Penang, First, she worked there as a teacher and EYFS leader before later becoming the Deputy Headteacher of the school. Joey fell in love with Penang the moment she arrived and now classes Penang as ‘home.’ Outside of school she enjoys fashion, reading educational papers and exploring all of the fabulous food that Penang has to offer! She is very excited to be working in a school as lovely as SCIPS where she has been since 2020.

Josephine was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. She obtained her Diploma in Early Childhood Education from SEGI College Penang. She has also completed her Bachelor’s degree in Early Years Education at the University of Greenwich in collaboration with SEGI College Penang. She graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded “The International Collaborations Prize for Best Completing Student on an International Collaborative programme”.
She has been working with children since young due to the influence of her mother and that was how she found her passion in Early Years education. She has previously taught at Prince and Princess Kindergarten and Methodist Kindergarten for five years before teaching at Wesley Methodist School Penang (International).
She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going on adventures, and exploring different places and food. She is very excited to be working in SCIPS and is looking forward to teaching in Reception.
Paul is from the United Kingdom and has a BSc in Psychology and Philosophy from Glamorgan University. He completed his PGCE in 2004 and worked as a primary teacher and senior leader in London for 14 years. Paul and his family moved to Penang in 2018 and he is now starting his fifth year working at SCIPS. Paul has worked across all the key stages in the school and is really looking forward to working in the Reception this year.
Paul and his family have fallen in love with Malaysia. His daughter Flora was born in Penang and his son Barney has now lived in Malaysia longer than the UK! Paul‘s other loves include cricket, cycling, football, and exploring new countries and cultures.
Lianne is from Penang, Malaysia and has a degree in English and Mass Communication from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) as well as a PGCE from The University of East London. This is her third time teaching at SCIPS having taught from 2000 to 2007 as a PE teacher and then in the Early Years department. She then went to teach at Brambletye School in the UK until 2011 where she worked as a Reception and Year 2 teacher. On her return to SCIPS in 2011, she taught Year 2 before taking time off to have her two children, Jake and Matilda, who are now students at SCIPS.
She enjoys sports, musicals, art and travel as well as spending time with her family!
Lianne is very excited to be back teaching in Reception having spent two years in Year 2.
Elaine is a Malaysian Eurasian of British descent. She was trained as an Early Years teacher under the Persatuan Tadika Malaysia (Malaysian Kindergarten Association) at University of Malaya and upon graduation, studied Principles of Early Childhood Education under the London Montessori Centre. She has many years of teaching experience and has taught children from the age of 2-1/2 years to 6 years.
She is married to Vincent and has two young adult sons, Jeremy and Christian.
