Becca is from York, a historic town in the north of England. She studied at York St John University for three years and qualified in 2012 with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education with QTS. From there she took a teaching post at a village school in Harrogate and worked there as a class teacher and as part of the senior leadership team for the past eight years. She has travelled all over Europe and after travelling to Vietnam and Thailand, Becca knew she wanted to see more of Asia. This inspired her move to Penang and to St Christopher’s. In her free time, Becca enjoys reading books on the beach, listening to live music in Georgetown and travelling.
Rebecca is from Bristol in the UK but spent part of her childhood living in Germany. At a young age, she developed a passion for exploring different cultures and since then has had the opportunity to tour around the tea plantations of Sri Lanka, climb an active volcano in Bali, explore the Amazon and zip line across a mountain range in Peru. Rebecca studied for a degree in Primary Education (BA Hons) at the University of West of England. For the majority of her 13 year teaching career, she has specialised and been a lead teacher in mathematics from Early Years to Year 6. She has taught all year groups in KS2 with most experience in Y5 and Y6. Her passion for travel, food and different cultures has led her to make the move the Penang. She is very excited about being part of the SCIP community and exploring the rest of Malaysia. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, eating and cooking, working out and socialising.

Charlie is originally from Bolton, which is just outside of Manchester in the United Kingdom. Whilst at university, Charlie spent time coaching sports and this was where his passion for teaching was discovered. Through coaching, he was able to spend time working and travelling around America, developing a deep love for exploring new places and meeting new people. He graduated with First Class Honours from his Sport degree at Sheffield Hallam University before gaining QTS through his Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Primary Education. Following his time at university, Charlie spent three years teaching in a Sheffield Primary school before making the decision to move to Penang to join the SCIPS family. He spent one wonderful year working with Year 3 children and is now excited to begin working with the Year 5 students.
Away from teaching, Charlie is passionate about all things sport and is a huge Bolton Wanderers supporter. He finds enjoyment playing golf and football, hiking, swimming and spending time in the gym. He also enjoys art and spends some of his free time drawing. He has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to experience the diverse culture that Penang has whilst exploring the stunning scenery and beautiful landmarks of Malaysia.
Hannah comes from Leigh-on-Sea in England and has a BA ed in Primary Education and Art from the University of Reading. She remained in Reading at the start of her teaching career, teaching Year 3 and coordinating Art and Design before moving to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. In Vietnam she taught years 2 and 3 at an International British school, also leading Year 2 for 4 years. She has spent the last year teaching Year 5 in Tanzania but is now excited to return to SE Asia. Outside of teaching, Hannah enjoys reading, pottery, painting and hiking. She is looking forward to being a part of the SCIPS team and exploring Malaysia.
Owen is from the south of the United Kingdom. He has a BA (Hons) in Geography from Plymouth University with a Certificate of Industrial Placement at an international engineering firm. Owen completed a graduate scheme as a Transport Planner which involved designing and delivering public transport and road improvements. Following in the footsteps of both his parents, he changed his career by gaining a PGCE from the University of the West of England (Bristol). Owen has taught in a range of schools and ages in the UK. At his previous school, he was Head of Year and Head of Reading. During his career, he has received specialist training in Maths Mastery.
In his spare time, Owen loves exploring nature and reading science books. Back in the UK, he had a range of pets including chickens and a tortoise. He is a qualified RYA dinghy instructor who, before moving to Penang, volunteered at his local sailing club coaching children of all ages. After being a teacher in the UK for nearly a decade, Owen decided it was time to seek out new challenges and is thoroughly enjoying his time on the Pearl of the Orient.
Ryan is originally from Manchester, in the United Kingdom. He gained his degree in English Literature at Loughborough University before competing the Teach First leadership programme, a charity that aims to end educational inequality. Ryan comes from a long line of educators, having inherited his desire to teach from his mother and grandmother.
After a four years of teaching in Oldham, Ryan’s love of travel has led him to Penang, where he hopes to continue to empower students through literature.
In his spare time, Ryan enjoys running, hiking, climbing and cooking dishes from a variety of cultures.
