The English as a Second Language (ESL) programme is provided for children with limited or no English who wish to attend our school. The ESL programme aims at giving these children the support needed to cope better in class.
This programme is conducted within Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

At St. Christopher’s we believe all children should achieve their maximum potential.
We also have a Special Educational Needs Programme at St. Christopher’s, to help children with learning. The prgramme has three main objectives:
- 1. To ensure that the needs of all children who may have special educational needs are addressed
- 2. To provide access for children with special educational needs to a broad and balanced curriculum
- 3. To meet, as far as possible, the needs of most children within mainstream education
The SEN Coordinator/Teacher provides assistance to children with special educational needs in Key Stages 1 & 2. Assistance is provided during normal school hours from 8am to 2pm.
Support is provided either in the SEN classroom in a small focus group, or within the mainstream classroom.
Children are supported in the areas of need e.g. listening, speaking, reading, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, maths, auditory and visual perception skills, organisation, attention, behaviour etc.
All children included in the programme have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) which is agreed as a result of consultation with teachers and parents. The IEP contains Educational Targets which are assessed termly at a review meeting.
