What do we teach in the Bahasa Melayu programme?

The Bahasa Melayu curriculum follows an adapted version of the Malaysian Government Syllabus for Year 1 to Year 6. It is modified to meet each individual’s ability without compromising the curriculum standards.

Apart from language, the study of Moral Education and Local Studies (Malaysian Studies) is also incorporated into Bahasa Melayu lessons.
What are the length of weekly lessons?

The Year 2 pupils will attend 2 hrs and 15 minutes per week, conducted every Wednesday.

The Year 3 & 4 pupils will attend a total of 2 hrs and 30 minutes per week, conducted every Monday and Tuesday.

The Year 5 & 6 pupils will attend a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes lessons per week conducted every Thursday and Friday.
What are the teaching methods?

When the child is in the Bahasa Melayu Programme, we consider the language needs as our first priority. Children take part in individual, group and whole class activities to enhance their Bahasa Melayu skills in reading, speaking and listening.

The Bahasa Melayu class will have a class library where the students will have the opportunity to borrow books for reading purposes. Pupils will get to choose books of different levels to read.
How can parents help?

Parents can play a major role in helping the Bahasa Melayu programme. Motivate the children in stressing the importance of Bahasa Melayu - especially when living as a part of the Malaysian community.

Parents can read Bahasa Melayu readers with the children. This will enhance mastery of the language.

Engaging in simple conversation in Bahasa Melayu with the children will develop a better understanding of the language.
