Student Teachers

For some years, students from the Westfaelische Wilhelms University Muenster in Germany are joining St. Christopher’s to do a teaching practice.

They are usually with us for 4 to 6 weeks. Even secondary student teachers enjoy teaching the Nursery, Reception and Primary children. They taught a variety of subjects: Maths, P.E., Science and German.

They also joined residential trips and helped with after school activities All of them enjoyed having the opportunity to get to know a different school system in comparison with the German System.

Considering the large number of German families living in Penang, St. Christopher's offers German in association with the German School Association as an after school lesson for every child with German as a first language.  A teacher from Germany ensures that pupils  are still proficient in their own language and keep up with their oral, written and communicative skills. The children have access to a well-resourced library with the latest German children books being published.  Pupils  experience small group activities and individual lessons which are designed to make learning secure and fun.  

Also, German is taught to all children as a second language in Years 5 and 6.  It serves as an introduction to an additional modern Western Language, providing cultural knowledge, basic vocabulary and communication skills.
