At St. Christopher’s we believe all children should achieve their maximum potential.

The Special Educational Needs Programme at St. Christopher’s

has three main objectives:

ensure that the needs of all children who may have

    special educational needs are addressed

provide access for children with special educational needs to a

    broad and balanced curriculum

meet, as far as possible, the needs of most children within mainstream education

The S.E.N. Coordinator/Teacher provides free assistance to children with special educational needs in Key Stage 1 & 2.  Assistance is provided during normal school hours from 8am to 2pm.

Individual or group support is held either in the S.E.N. classroom or within the mainstream classroom.

Children are supported in the areas of need e.g. listening, speaking, reading, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, math, auditory and visual perceptual skills, organisation, attention, behaviour etc.

All children assessed as having SEN have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) which is agreed as a result of consultation with the Class Teacher, SENCo, parents and pupil. The IEP contains Educational Targets which are assessed termly at a review meeting.
