The emphasis in Key Stage Two is on "learning how to learn". Learning is seen as
a process; education as an adventure and a journey that is both exciting and
rewarding!
The children here are aged between the ages of seven and eleven. They
are encouraged to be receptive to new concepts and to evaluate their own
progress when dealing with them. They have access to a wide range of
information and media and are taught the value of effective
communication as a tool for furthering understanding.
We aim to build on and enhance the wide variety of knowledge, skills and
experiences that the children bring to SCIPS and to equip them as best
we can for the future. Activities are differentiated to meet the needs
of individual children and setting for the core subjects of mathematics
and English enable us to do that very effectively. Across all curriculum
areas, however, independence, a sense of responsibility, respect and
self-confidence are among the personal qualities we seek to encourage
within all of our children.
Our
Children
Currently we
have 140+ children in Key Stage Two aged between 7 and 11 years of age,
who speak many different languages between them. All of our lessons
(with the exception of Modern Language classes) are conducted in English
and we are very proud of the speed with which the children become fluent
in that language.
Our Teachers
At present we
have seven classes in Key Stage Two, each one being led by an over-seas
trained teacher. However, the children also enjoy working with
specialist teachers for subjects such as music, modern languages,
library and physical education.
Homework
In Key Stage Two
homework is given on a daily basis and serves to reinforce class
teaching. The children all have a homework diary which acts as a useful
form of written communication between teachers , pupils and parents.
