Key stage 1
covers years one and two. To enter Year 1, children must be 5 by
the first of September of the Academic Year they enter that year
group. Similarly, they need to be 6 by the 1st of September to
enter Year 2.
The teaching
staff work together as part of a close team, planning and
sharing ideas. Teachers and classroom assistants provide a
supportive, caring and challenging environment, that promotes
children to be independent learners. Class sizes are a maximum
of 25. Each class has a full time assistant which gives the
children a great deal of individual attention. The curriculum is
taught in a fun filled highly stimulating environment, that
enables the children to grow in confidence and ability.
Developing Independence
Class, group
and individual activities aim to develop the ability to work
well with others.
Developmental writing- Giving the children the confidence and
encouragement to write independently.
Encouraging
the children to be responsible for organising and completing the
daily classroom tasks.
Developing
responsibility for their own possessions.
Differentiation
Differentiation
occurs in all areas of the curriculum.
Children are
grouped according to their level of ability in number work and
English.
Assessment
Termly check-up
and profile tasks provide a record of each child's achievement.
A Math's and
Reading assessment takes place at the end of year one and for
all new children that enter the school.
Teacher
assessment is on-going throughout the academic year.
Standard
assessment tasks are administered at the end of Year Two in
English and Math's.
